2021.12.03

“Taiyo Oil SOLATO Award” goes to drawing of Miri Shimizu

This year, Taiyo Oil cosponsored the 67th Yamaguchi Prefecture Primary School Pupils Animal Drawing Contest, which was organized by Yamaguchi Shimbun, as it has done regarding this contest in the past.

Primary school pupils in the prefecture were invited to submit drawings of animals from zoos in Yamaguchi: Akiyoshidai Safari Land in Mine City, Tokiwa Zoo in Ube City, and Tokuyama Zoo in Shunan City. The aim of the contest was to develop the sensibilities and expressiveness of children based on the observing and drawing of animals.

While the previous year’s award ceremony was canceled due to the impact of the spread of COVID-19, this year it was held while taking thorough measures for preventing infections.

At the start of the ceremony, Taiyo Oil Executive Officer Mamoru Watanabe expressed the company’s passion regarding cosponsoring the contest, saying, “In the future, we at Taiyo Oil shall continue to support activities of this kind for nurturing young persons.”

The contest on this occasion received a total of 1,332 entries from elementary school students and young children of Yamaguchi Prefecture, and this was approximately 500 more entries than the previous year. Out of the entries, a total of 211 were awarded with prizes, consisting of 18 special prizes, 30 gold prizes, 57 silver prizes, and 106 honorable mentions.

Among the special prizes, the drawing that won the Taiyo Oil SOLATO Prize was made by Miri Shimizu of Daigakuin Preschool. The drawing features large flamingos filling an entire piece of paper, and it gives a feeling of cheerfulness to those who see it.

During the taking of commemorative photographs, the Taiyo Oil character SOLATO-kun made an appearance, and SOLATO-kun had fun exchanges with the prize-winning children while taking commemorative photographs with them.

Taiyo Oil will continue to support projects that aim to bring up upstanding future leaders from today’s youth as part of its CSR activities in Yamaguchi Prefecture where Yamaguchi Operations is located.
