"The Exciting World of Books and Clay Art--presented by Taiyo Oil"

2020.08.20

On August 9 (Sun.), an event called “The Exciting World of Books and Clay Art—presented by Taiyo Oil” was held at Ehime Shimbun Co., Ltd. in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture.

This is a workshop aimed at making children more familiar with books, and is held in conjunction with the “Ehime Shimbun Primary School Book Report Contest” of which Taiyo Oil is the special sponsor.

During the workshop on this occasion, Karin Kano, a picture book author from Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, where Taiyo Oil Shikoku Operations is located, served as an instructor, and during separate morning and afternoon sessions, 51 people consisting of elementary school students and their guardians took on the challenge of creating clay art depicting a scene from a favorite book.

At the workshop, in addition to making clay art, the attendees listened to Ms. Kano read picture books, and thus the participating, bright-eyed children, were immersed in the world of books.

With the advent of the COVID-19 crisis this year, many measures were taken to prevent its spread, including avoidance of the “Three Cs” (Closed spaces with poor ventilation, and Crowded and Close-contact settings), mask wearing, hand sanitizing with alcohol, and health checks using checklist sheets. Thanks to this, all of the attendees were able to enjoy a valuable experience during the summer holiday.

Taiyo Oil will continue supporting activities of this kind that aim to bring up upstanding leaders of tomorrow from among today’s youth as part of its social action programs.
