Taiyo Oil holds “Gomi Pro!” beach cleaning activities
Like the previous year, Taiyo Oil held “Gomi Pro!” beach cleaning activities in Yamaguchi Prefecture in cooperation Yamaguchi Broadcasting Co., Ltd.
On this occasion, which marked the second installment of the event, the activities were carried out at Nagata Beach Park in Shunan City. Like the previous installment, nearly all of the available application spots were filled, and a group of a total of 91 volunteers from regions across Yamaguchi Prefecture was assembled.
Once again, during the event, various measures were taken in response to the COVID-19 crisis, and these included taking the body temperatures of participants and local staff members when they arrived, wearing masks, using hand sanitizer, and avoiding crowding.
At the start of the event, Taiyo Oil Executive Officer Mamoru Watanabe offered remarks, and conveyed his thoughts regarding the activities, saying, “Amid a recent increase in the need for energy companies to give consideration to the environment, we launched these cleaning activities last year in the hope of giving something back to the people of Yamaguchi Prefecture, who have been supporting our offices here on a daily basis.”
The progress of the cleaning activities was covered with a simultaneous live broadcast on Yamaguchi Broadcasting’s Saturday regular radio program “Doyo Da!,” and Yamaguchi Broadcasting’s popular announcer Yutaka Takahashi served as an onsite reporter. Both the volunteer site and the radio program were brimming with excitement as Mr. Takahashi interviewed the participants and gave reports on the progress of the activities and so on while interacting with radio personalities in the studio.
Like the previous installment, the participants were of a wide range of ages, from children to adults, and many of them provided comments expressing that the activities were “fun.”
Going forward, Taiyo Oil intends to continue regional contribution activities like these in order to help with environmental-conservation initiatives in Yamaguchi Prefecture where Yamaguchi Operations is located.
