In relation to the EV carsharing service “SOLATO Carshare” that Taiyo Oil announced on September 1, 2023, Taiyo Oil has been entrusted by Matsuyama City with the operations of a demonstration experiment involving the introduction of EV carsharing, and will be starting an EV-sharing demonstration experiment that makes use of off-grid solar carports on November 1, 2023.
For the EV-sharing demonstration experiment, two EVs for carsharing (Nissan Sakura) will be introduced, and off-grid solar carports will be set up at the Matsuyama City Hall No. 4 Annex South Parking Lot. The utilization of renewable energy will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions in the region.
Taiyo Oil has been strengthening initiatives aimed at creating next-generation businesses aimed at reducing environmental impact, and low carbonization rooted in local communities, and by continuing to do so, the company shall contribute to regional energy infrastructure and promote the realization of new mobility societies.
Overview of demonstration experiment
The EV-sharing demonstration experiment will be carried out from November 1, 2023 through March 20, 2024, with the carsharing being provided to personnel of Matsuyama City Hall on weekdays and to local residents on holidays.
The EV will be supplied electricity at “off-grid” carport that are completely independent from the power grid, and thus it will run with environmentally friendly carbon-free electricity. Furthermore, the off-grid solar carport is equipped with 100V outlets, so it is expected that it will be possible to use it to supply power to the EV during ordinary times, and to provide regional emergency power during disasters for purposes such as charging smartphones.
