2025.03.26

Taiyo Oil Company, Limited has been awarded ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU (Trader with Storage) certifications as of March 6, 2025.

Having been awarded these certifications, Taiyo Oil has affirmed its strong commitment to adhere to the latest International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) rules and comply with the requirements of ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU regulations.

The award of these certifications represents the achievement of a key milestone within Taiyo Oil’s biofuel development strategy. From 2029, Taiyo Oil is planning to use its Okinawa site to manufacture and supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (RD), both of which are low carbon alternatives to petroleum-based products.

ISCC is an internationally recognized certification system that guarantees the sustainability of biofuels and renewable energy sources. The award of these certifications enables Taiyo Oil to procure and sell certified products in advance of commencing SAF and RD production. As a result, Taiyo Oil seeks to meet domestic and overseas market needs, while strengthening the supply chain and expanding partnerships, with a view to successfully bringing its new SAF production facility online.

Overview of Certifications

ISCC CORSIA

ISCC CORSIA certifies sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and its supply chains based on the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The use of SAF with ISCC CORSIA certification allows users to claim greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions under CORSIA.

ISCC EU

ISCC EU certifies biomass and biofuels in compliance with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) of the European Union (EU), ensuring they meet sustainability and traceability standards.
