History of Shikoku Operations

October 1938 The plant was relocated from Yahatahama City, Ehime Prefecture, to Kameoka Village (the current location of Shikoku Operations).
September 1950 The construction of the crude distillation unit (1,000 barrels/day), vacuum distillation unit (2,000 barrels/day), and 10 product tanks was completed.
February 1951 A license for petroleum refining was granted, and refining of 500 barrels of petroleum/day, which was a consignment from Shell Sekiyu K.K., commenced.
November 1964 Approval for the increase in the capacity of crude distillation unit to 59,000 barrels/day and vacuum distillation unit to 4,000 barrels/day was obtained.
February 1965 A 100,000-DWT¬class sea berth was completed.
October 1967 The construction of No.1 crude oil distillation unit (29,000 barrels/day) built as a scrap-and-build system was completed, and its operation began.
April 1969 The capacity of No.1 crude oil distillation unit was increased up to 49,000 barrels/day.
September 1969 The 100,000-DWT-class sea berth was modified to 130,000 DWT class.
March 1971 Completion of the construction and the startup of No.2 crude oil distillation unit (10,000 barrels/day), catalytic gasoline reformer (5,000 barrels/day), and hydrodesulfurization unit (12,000 barrels/day) were achieved. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 59,000 barrels/day)
September 1974 The capacity of No.2 crude oil distillation unit was increased up to 20,000 barrels/day. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 69,000 barrels/day)
October 1974 The construction of the dolphin berth of 88,000 DWT was completed.
July 1975 Kikuma Oil Refinery was authorized as a factory approved by Japanese Industrial Standards.
July 1976 A system capable of stockpiling petroleum sufficient for 90 days' consumption was developed. A total of 19 stockpiling tanks capable of storing 734,000 kL in total were constructed.
July 1978 The construction of a Disaster Prevention Center was completed. (Deployment of fire engines was carried out in accordance with the Law on the Prevention of Disasters in Petroleum Industrial Complexes and Other Petroleum Facilities.)
February 1982 Kikuma Oil Refinery won the prize for Outstanding Energy Management Factory in the fiscal year 1981 (in the division of heat), which was awarded by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
September 1983 The capacity of No.1 crude oil distillation unit was decreases by 4,000 barrels/day. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 65,000 barrels/day)
July 1986 The capacity of catalytic gasoline reformer was increased up to 6,000 barrels/day.
August 1988 Completion of the construction and startup of the vacuum distillation unit (20,000 barrels/day) and hydrocracking unit (12,000 barrels) was achieved.
June 1991 The construction and startup of BTX production facilities including naphtha hydrotreater No. 2 (31,000 barrels/day), catalytic reforming unit (23,000 barrels/day), and hydrodealkylation unit (300,000 t/year) was achieved.
May 1992 The capacity of the No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units was increased up to 52,000 barrels/day and 23,000 barrels/day, respectively. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 75,000 barrels/day)
May 1993 The capacity of No.1 crude oil distillation unit was increased up to 59,000 barrels/day. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 82,000 barrels/day)
May 1994 The capacity of No.2 crude oil distillation unit was increased up to 26,000 barrels/day (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 85,000 barrels/day)
May 1995 The capacity of crude distillation unit was increased up to 30,000 barrels/day. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 89,000 barrels/day)
November 1995 Kikuma Oil Refinery was recognized as a certified business operator as per the Law on the Prevention of Disaster in Petroleum Industrial Complexes and Other Petroleum Facilities
July 1996 Kikuma Oil Refinery was renamed as Shikoku Operations because of the transfer of a part of the headquarters operations. The capacity of hydrodesulfurization unit and naphtha hydrotreater No. 2 was increased up to 18,000 barrels/day and 37,000 barrels/day, respectively. (The capacity of aromatics extraction unit was increased up to 1,100 t /day.)
May 1997 The capacity of the following were increased: the capacity of the No.1 crude oil distillation unit was increased to 67,000 barrels/day, capacity of the No.2 crude oil distillation unit was increased to 32,000 barrels/day, and capacity of the vacuum distillation unit was increased to 27,000 barrels/day. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 99,000 barrels/day)
June 1998 The capacity of No.1 crude oil distillation unit was increased up to 70,000 barrels/day. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units combined: 102,000 barrels/day)
August 1998 The construction of debenzene unit with a capacity of 5,200 barrels/day was completed.
December 1998 Shikoku Operations became ISO 9002 certified. (It was later changed to ISO 9001.)
June 1999 Shikoku Operations obtained a license as a Customs Broker.
December 1999 Shikoku Operations qualified as an Accredited Completion Inspection Executor and Accredited Safety Inspection Executor as per the High Pressure Gas Safety Act.
November 2001 The capacity of hydrocracking unit was increased up to 19,000 barrels/day.
March 2002 Shikoku Operations became ISO 14001 certified
July 2002 The capacity of CCR platforming unit was increased up to 33,000 barrels/day.
September 2002 Completion of the construction and startup of a deep hydrodesulfurization unit with a capacity of 30,000 barrels/day was achieved.
August 2003 The construction of a crude oil splitter with a capacity of 30,000 barrels/day was constructed, and the capacity of the No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units was increased up to 88,000 barrels/day. (Combined capacity of No.1 and No.2 crude oil distillation units: 120,000 barrels/day)
September 2003 For an infrastructure improvement project, Shikoku Operations acquired town property of about 15,000 m2 area, which included a town road, farm road, and water channel, and the project was completed.
August 2006 The capacity of the CCR platforming unit was increased up to 37,000 barrels/day.
November 2010 Completion of the construction and startup of Resid Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit with a capacity of 25,000 barrels/day
March 2014 Reduced the capacity of the crude distillation unit to 118,000 barrels/day.
August 2014 The capacity of the Resid Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit was augmented to 29,000 barrels/day.
March 2017 The capacity of the crude distillation unit was augmented to 138,000 barrels/day, and capacity of the Resid Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit was augmented to 32,000 barrels/day.
